FAQs

1. Who is eligible to become a certified NYU Caregiver Intervention (NYUCI) counselor?

Social workers, counselors, therapists, psychologists, and other social service professionals are eligible to get trained and certified in the NYUCI. We highly recommend you also have at least two years’ experience working with older adults and their family members. If you do not have specific experience working with older adults with dementia and their families, we recommend you also complete one or more of the CARES® online dementia care training programs offered by HealthCare Interactive.

Depending upon your profession and your specific state requirements, you may also have to be licensed (or supervised by a licensed professional) and carry acceptable levels of liability insurance.

If you have other equivalent professional credentials that do not fall into the above categories, please click the Contact Us button so we can help you determine if you are eligible to offer the NYUCI.

2. Who is eligible to deliver the NYUCI via online videoconferencing?

Any certified NYUCI counselor who has also completed the optional online videocounseling  training program is authorized to conduct the NYUCI via online videoconferencing. This additional training is included in the cost of the NYUCI training and certification program. While anyone could simply conduct the NYUCI via Skype® or Zoom®, there are many important clinical considerations that must be taken into account for delivery of the NYUCI via this technology.

3. Who is eligible to be listed in the NYUCI Referral Directory?

  • Individuals

All certified NYUCI counselors are eligible to be listed on our referral directory. If you are a licensed mental health provider and successfully complete the NYUCI training, you are eligible to be listed on the website. If you have completed the additional telehealth certification, you will be designated as both an in-person and a telehealth NYUCI counselor.

  • Agencies

Agencies employing certified NYUCI counselors can also be listed on the website. Counselors will also be listed individually.
